Automata: Contemporary Mechanical Sculpture. Works by 14 international artists, now thru 3/14, Chazen Museum of Art ("Desiring Machines," lecture by UW Prof. Jill Casid 5:30pm, 2/18) Meticulously crafted to perform complex, surprising, and often comic movements, these mechanical sculptures tell quick fanciful tales of nature, myth and magic, the creative process, and sheer make-believe. More than 25 hand-cranked artist-designed automata will be on view & videos will play in the gallery to show the animated workings of the pieces. Free, all ages.
